Spooky

26 Apr

I haven’t been feeing well lately and have not been sleeping much at all.  Last night, in the middle of the night, wide awake, I was trolling the internet and came across this article about the latest Poly Styrene album which just came out.  That’s the last thing I read before I finally fell asleep.  And then, this morning, the very first thing I read, spookily enough, was that she died – yesterday.  Cancer.  53.

Sometimes I don’t know what to do with coincidences like this.  I feel like there has to be some meaning.  But what could this mean?  I know it sounds a little crazy, but you have to admit – it is weird.  Plus, it’s Poly Styrene!  Not someone you read about every day….although I’d like that world better, I think.

She went through many changes since her teenage X-Ray Spex days, but that’s always what I’ll think of.  Here’s “The Day the World Turned Day-Glo,” their second single – and my first favorite.

I Remember Paris

7 Feb

Gary Moore died yesterday, in a hotel room in Southern Spain.  I always wonder if airlines treat bodies any more carefully than they do regular luggage.  I’m hoping I never find out.

“Parisienne Walkways” is a great song about memories.  With amazing guitar licks, of course.  It features Phil Lynott, too.  I think it’s pretty special.  I just wish I hadn’t thought of it because of seeing a “R.I.P.”
